DALLAS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball member
Will Bartoszek was named the 2024—25 American Southwest Conference Fred Jacoby Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, announced by the conference on Thursday.
Cowboy basketball head coach
Matt Brackett said this, "Will is the ultimate teammate. He was last year's player of the year and All-American and was nominated as pre-season All-American this season. He missed the first part of the season due to injury. Will has sacrificed a lot of his personal accomplishments for the team's success. He never complains about the number of shots he takes or playing time. All he cares about is winning. He has set a great example for our team of what it takes to be successful. He is an amazing student and has great character."
Bartoszek was voted 2024-25 ASC Men's Basketball Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year in his final season at Hardin-Simmons a graduate student from Rockwall, Texas. He led the Cowboys to an undefeated conference season which has only been accomplished four times in the history of ASC men's basketball, and finished the year at the NCAA Sweet 16. Bartoszek scored 267 points for the Cowboys this season, adding 126 rebounds and 45 assists. Bartoszek was named the ASC MVP in 2023-24, was a two-time All-American selection and was a Josten's Trophy Finalist last year.
The ASC Fred Jacoby Sportsmanship Award honors a male and female student-athlete who best display attributes of sportsmanship, leadership, citizenship and academic integrity in his or her athletic, academic and life pursuits. Bartoszek was named the male honoree and Mary-Kate Mark from East Texas Baptist cross country team was the female award winner for this season. The conference athletic directors present the award based on the nominees from each ASC sportsmanship athlete in each conference sport.
