Box Score IRVING, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team defeated the University of Dallas Crusaders on the road by a final score of 7-1 Friday night to start the season.
Seven different Cowgirls went for goal in the game, starting with senior
Presleigh Thiessen in the 14
th minute with an assist from
Aras King to take the lead 1-0.
Hardin-Simmons scored three more goals in the first half to lead 4-0.
Aras King scored in the 16
th minute with the game-winner in the 7-1 win with an assist from
Lexi Templin.
Maeve Connerty scored a goal to make it 3-0 Cowgirls in the 26
th minute and Templin scored another Cowgirl goal in the 26
th minute with a
Taylor Koch assist to pad the lead.
Freshman Cowgirl
Tatum Barnett scored to open the second half in the 51
st minute for Hardin-Simmons and
Rachel Bonnin found the net in the 63
rd minute after another assist from Koch for a 6-0 Cowgirl lead.
The Crusaders got on the board with a score in the 86
th minute, but the Cowgirls scored again in the 88
th minute off the foot of
Riley Surratt with a
Cora Saucedo assist to make it a 7-1 win.
Hardin-Simmons shot 25 times with 11 shots on goal and led with six corner kicks earned. The Cowgirls allowed just five shots and two shots on goal in the 7-1 win.
Abigail Medlin started in goal for the Cowgirls and went 45 minutes with a save in the win. Junior transfer
Samantha Longoria started the second half at goalkeeper for the Cowgirls and played 30 minutes and freshman keeper
Peyton Scott finished the game with 15 minutes in goal.
The Cowgirls started the year 1-0 and will return to the HSU Soccer Complex next Thursday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m. to play McMurry.
