GEORGETOWN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl women's soccer team won a shootout 4-3 playing against the Southwestern Pirates on the road in Georgetown on Sunday morning.
Tatum Barnett started the day for Hardin-Simmons with a goal in the seventh minute assisted by
Belle Floyd to lead the Pirates 1-0 early.
Southwestern tied the game at 1-1 in the 28
th minute with a goal from Jackie Powell. She finished with a hat trick, scoring all three of the Pirate goals against the Cowgirls on Sunday.
Barnett went for her second goal of the day in Georgetown to take a 2-1 Cowgirl lead in the 29
th minute with an assist from
Taylor Koch. She now has four goals in six games this year for Hardin-Simmons to lead the team.
Belle Floyd scored her first goal of the season in the second half with an assist from
Kalea Willis to go up 3-1 in the 55
th minute.
Southwestern stormed back with two goals from Powell to complete the hat trick, scoring in the 67
th and 83
rd minute to tie the game 3-3.
Lexi Templin scored on an assist from
Taylor Koch for the game-winner in the 89
th minute, just in time for a 4-3 Cowgirl win.
The Cowgirls led the game with 31 total shots and 16 shots on goal. Southwestern finished with 11 shots and nine shots on goal. HSU won the margin in corner kicks 3-2 over the Pirates.
Abigail Medlin started the game in goal for Hardin-Simmons and played the first half with three saves.
Samantha Longoria started and played the whole second half with three saves in the 4-3 win.
The Cowgirls improved to 3-1-2 after the win on Sunday and will play at Concordia Texas on September 18
th in Round Rock, Texas starting at 6 p.m.
