KINGSLAND, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl golf team finished in second place and were two shots out of the lead, with three individuals inside the top five of the individual leaderboard at the Texas Legends Cup on Tuesday at The Legends Golf Club in Kingsland, Texas.
The Cowgirls entered back three strokes on Tuesday after an opening round of 325. Hardin-Simmons finished with a round of 311 on Tuesday for a total of 636, which was good for second place behind the Mary Hardin-Baylor B team with 327:307:634.
Southwestern Texas finished third with 322:319:641, five behind the Cowgirls. Schreiner had a 649 total, East Texas Baptist ended with 658 strokes, Concordia Texas had 666, and McMurry shot 671.
Addison Payne was second in the individual leaderboard for Hardin-Simmons with 156 after two rounds of 78 and 78. Payne was two behind the leader Sydney Jackson of Southwestern with 154 on two rounds of 77 and 77.
Shay West finished tied for fifth with 159 shots, after rounds of 82 and 77.
Allison McGinnis was also tied for fifth place with 159 after rounds of 80 and 79.
Ariana Chavez shot 162 with rounds of 85 and 77,
Aly Navarro shot rounds of 88 and 86 for 174 total, and
Julia Hughes finished at 178 with rounds of 92 and 86.
The Cowgirls will follow this strong showing with a weekend off before traveling to Destin, Fla. For the Golfweek October Classic beginning Oct. 12 at the Sandestin Resort & Club.
