BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team beat the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders 69-56 on Thursday night on the road in American Southwest Conference play.
The Cowgirls were dead even with the Crusaders at the half tied 38-38. HSU outscored UMHB 31-18 in the second to take the opening ASC game of the season.
Hardin-Simmons relied on a balanced attack, finally getting to play on Thursday night after the winter storm pushed the game with Mary Hardin-Baylor back nearly a week from its original date last Saturday.
Jacqueline Berry led the Cowgirls with 20 points, and three other Cowgirls scored double-digits. Carline Croft finished with 15 points, while
Dylan Koele and
Abbie Crow scored ten points apiece for HSU.
The Hardin-Simmons defense rallied around the scoring effort in the second half, holding the Crusaders to shooting just 6-of-27 from the floor in the second half, right under 23 percent.
The Cowgirls improved to 15-3 and 1-0 in ASC play and will have a quick turnaround for Cowgirl senior day on Saturday against ETBU at the Mabee Athletic Complex. Senior day will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the Cowgirls will also recognize the 20
th anniversary of the 2006 Cowgirl NCAA Final Four team at halftime of the game.
