ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team held back the late surge from Colorado College to win 80-70 on Monday afternoon at the Mabee Athletic Complex to get the tenth win for HSU.

Matthew Alexander each had career-highs in scoring for the Cowboys. Williams scored 20 points shooting 5-for-9 and making 10-of-12 free throws, adding eight rebounds. Alexander tied his previous career-high in points with 18 against the Tigers of Colorado College, finishing with two 3-pointers, six rebounds, and six assists.
Hardin-Simmons had a fast start against the Tigers and led 40-28 at the half. An influx of fouls and Cowboy free throws allowed an abundance of time for Colorado College to claw its way back in the second half. At one point, the Tigers only trailed by six points, down 69-63 with three minutes to go.
The Cowboys saw their biggest lead of the game of 20 points, up 57-37 at 12 minutes in the second half, diminish but made their free throws and controlled the game for the 80-70 win. Hardin-Simmons shot 40 free throws in the game and made 18-of-25 free throws in the second half. Colorado College shot just 21 free throws in the whole game.
Chris Bryant had another double-digit scoring day with 17 points along with eight rebounds against the Tigers in the win Monday.
The Cowboys improved to 10-8 on the season and will play at McMurry on the south side tomorrow night at 6 p.m. on the road.
