BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team fell in the top-seed game in the American Southwest Conference, going down 93-90 to the UMHB Crusaders on Tuesday night in overtime.
The Cowboys played on Tuesday to make up the game at Mary Hardin-Baylor that was originally scheduled during the snow storm a few weeks ago. UMHB and HSU entered the night 3-0 in the ASC.
Hardin-Simmons went up at the half 40-32 over the Crusaders. The Cowboys held the lead much of the night thanks to a career-high 24 points by junior
Myles Amason, who shot 10-of-12 from the floor and led the team with eight rebounds.
Mary Hardin-Baylor trailed the Cowboys late, but hit a buzzer-beater 3-pointer to send the game into overtime. Both teams shot well in the overtime, with HSU shooting 4-of-8 and UMHB hitting 6-of-9 shots, and the Crusaders won by a final of 93-90.
Five Cowboys scored in double-digits, including Amason.
Matthew Alexander had 16 points,
Tyler Williams scored 15, and
Silas Davis and
Trevion Howell had 11 and ten points, respectively. Alexander added five assists and five steals for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowboys dropped the first-place game and are now 14-9 and 3-1 in the ASC. They will have a rematch with the Crusaders this coming Saturday for Cowboy senior day, with the game at 3 p.m. on Feb. 14 in the Mabee Athletic Complex.
