CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped a doubleheader on Friday to the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., falling 7-1 in the first game and 11-4 in the second game.
The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 and the Cowboys scored a single run in the fifth inning when
Jacob Hollingsworth had an RBI single. Ozarks answered with a pair of runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning of the seven-inning contest.
Hollingsworth and
Catcher Ridings had two hits each for the Cowboys in a five-hit attack.
Jack Kimsey(1-1) took the loss allowing four earned runs on nine hits in four and two-third innings.
Garrett Keller worked the final inning and one-third allowing one earned run.
Jake Dempsey went five innings allowing just one run on three hits to earn the win on the mound.
In the second game, the Eagles jumped to a 3-0 lead again but the Cowboys battled back to tie the game at 3-3 with an RBI single by
Mike Lozano in the second inning and two runs in the third. The first run came on a home run by
Gavin Bruning in his first career at-bat.
Justin Blancaflor tied the game with an RBI groundout.
Connor Reed gave the Eagles a 5-3 lead with a two-run single in the fourth.
Tate Robinson hit a home run for the Cowboys in the sixth. Ozarks came right back with a grand slam by Langdon Townsend in the sixth.
Robinson and Calvillo led the Cowboys with two hits each.
Caleb Reynolds (0-2) took the loss allowing four earned runs over five innings.
Kannon Baird,
Tanner Liming and
Bo Bolton each worked an inning of relief.
Ozarks used six pitchers with Julius McClellan earning the win. Joseph Coon led the way with three hits.
HSU fell to 2-3 on the year and will play Westminster College at noon on Saturday in Clarksville. Ozarks improved to 4-0 on the young season.
