Cowboys Take Down McMurry, 12-5

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team went across town and played clean ball and made McMurry pay for four errors in a 12-5 win in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Driggers Field.

The War Hawks scored in the first inning on a walk, wild pitch, stolen base and passed ball but Garrett Keller came in out of the bullpen and got out of the inning in relief of starter Ian Bamburg.

HSU came right back to take the lead in the second inning with a five-run outburst. Brock Calvillo and Gavin Bruning led off the inning with walks and Mike Lozano had a bunt single to load the bases. Paul Samarips then walked to bring
home a run and chase starter Noah Solis. Cannon Negron then greeted reliever G'ianni Cade with a two-run single to left center, Benji Fielder followed with an RBI single and Justin Blancaflor had a sacrifice fly.

Negron added an RBI single and the Cowboys scored a run on a balk and an error in the third to take an 8-1 lead. Catcher Ridings hit a towering two-run home run to left field in the fourth inning to push the lead to 10-1.

The War Hawks got their first hit of the game in the fourth inning and eventually plated three runs in the inning.

Bo Bolton came on in relief to start the fifth inning and worked an inning of scoreless ball to earn the win for the Cowboys.

Kia'i Sylvester hit a home run in the sixth inning to narrow the deficit to 10-5. HSU added a run on an error in the eighth inning and Jacob Hollingsworth had an RBI double in the ninth.

Kannon Baird worked three innings of relief for the Cowboys allowing just one run and Ethan Cloudt worked a scoreless ninth inning.

Negron led the Cowboys' 12-hit attack with four hits and drove in three runs. Chase Lynch had two of McMurry's five hits.
