JACKSON, Miss. - Millsaps Majors scored early to pull away from Hardin-Simmons Cowboys in a 16-1 win Saturday afternoon at Twenty Field.
Millsaps plated three runs in the second inning and broke the game open with a five-run fourth, highlighted by a three-run home run from EJ Ousley. The Majors added eight more runs over the final three innings to secure the victory.
Hardin-Simmons (7-7) was limited to four hits on the day.
Mike Lozano accounted for the Cowboys' lone run, scoring in the fifth inning after doubling down the right-field line.
Paul Samaripa drove him in with a single to left center for the Cowboys only RBI.
Brock Calvillo finished 2 for 3 to lead the Cowboys at the plate, while Samaripa and Lozano each added a hit. The Majors had seven hitters with two hits a piece to lead,
Jeron Flores (3-1) took the loss for Hardin-Simmons, allowing eight runs in three and two thirds innings. Four Cowboys pitchers combined to give up 15 hits. Millsaps starter John Montour (1-1) earned the win, scattering four hits and one run over seven innings while striking out three.
Hardin-Simmons will be back in action on Tuesday against Arlington Baptist with first pitch set for 5 p.m. at Hunter Field.
