ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team ended the season in the American Southwest Conference tournament championship game, going down 90-81 to Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Cowboys finished the regular season 5-1 in ASC play and hosted the ASC championship tournament at the Mabee Complex, advancing to the championship with a semifinal win over Howard Payne on Friday.
The Cowboys came out firing against the Crusaders, leading 27-10 midway through the first half. HSU went into halftime leading 44-33.
Matthew Alexander scored a career-high 24 points for Hardin-Simmons, with 11 points in the first half and three buckets straight to open the game for the Cowboys early. He added 11 rebounds for the double-double. Alexander was named to the ASC all-tournament team for Hardin-Simmons.
Mary Hardin-Baylor shot extremely well in the second half and went on to win the ASC championship game 90-81.
Chris Bryant scored 14 points with 13 rebounds for a double-double and scored the 1,000
th point of his career as a junior Cowboy.
Asher Fleming came away with nine points and 11 rebounds in the championship and was named to the ASC all-tournament team for Hardin-Simmons.
Senior
Trevion Howell scored 11 points shooting 4-of-5 and had a pair of steals on the defensive end for the Cowboys in the championship game.
