HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy and Cowgirl tennis teams won 6-1 and 7-0, respectively, only allowing one point from the Carroll University Pioneers in the final two matches of the spring break trip to South Carolina.
The women went up 7-0 starting with three doubles win for the point.
Sydney Tomlin and
Brenna Gordon won 6-2 in flight one,
Taylor Levy and
Addyson Tylaska won 6-2 in flight two, and
Emma Curiel and
Allie Dunn won 6-1 in the third doubles match.
Halle Smith got the win at sixth flight singles 6-4, 6-0 to start and
Taylor Levy won the fourth singles match quickly 6-0, 6-1.
Abigail Diamond won to clinch the match at 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at fifth flight singles, and
Emma Curiel added another win 6-0, 6-3 at third flight singles.
Tylaska had to fight to win 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) in flight two and Tomlin finished the sweep 6-3, 6-2 in the first flight of singles.
The Cowboys had a 6-1 win against Carroll, taking all of the doubles.
Payne Smith and
Gabriel Harris had a 6-0 sweep in the first, and
Maddux Foster and
Kayden Lengacher won 6-1 in the second flight.
Phoenix Davis and
Jameson Sorrell finished doubles up 6-4 over the Pioneers.
Harris started the singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win, and Smith ended with a win 6-3, 6-0 in the first flight.
Foster went down in a tough 5-7, 6-7 (5-7) match at second flight singles for the only point lost.
Brandon Curiel clinched the win at four singles 6-0, 6-1, and Lengacher won 6-3, 7-5 at five singles, while Davis ended the day up 6-2, 6-0 in the sixth flight.
Hardin-Simmons will host Western New Mexico on March 20 all day at the Streich Tennis center for men's and women's action.
