HOUSTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team claimed the team title at the Space City Classic held at the Gus Wortham Golf Course in Houston.

The Cowgirls fired rounds of 319 and 330 for a 649 total. HSU won the tournament by 13 shots over second-place Southwestern.  McMurry placed third with a 334-340-674, St. Thomas was fourth at 675, Jacksonville College was fifth at 679 and Concordia rounded out the field with a 694.

HSU led the field with seven birdies and 78 pars. The Cowgirls held a nearly half-shot advantage on the par-5s over the field.

Junior Shay West finished second in the medalist race to lead the Cowgirls with an 81-77-158 total. She finished one shot back of Leah Torres of St. Thomas.

Ariana Chavez placed seventh with a 79-84-162 and Allison McGinnis had a ninth-place finish with a 77-87-164 scorecard. Julia Hughes (83-86) and Addison Payne (83-86) both finished with 169 totals.

Chavez led the field with four birdies and West tied for the lead with 21 pars.

HSU returns to action March 30-31 at the LeTourneau Invitational at Pine Dunes in Frankston.
