Box Score 3 ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team defeated McMurry and went down to Abilene Christian and UT Permian Basin for a tripleheader of matches Saturday.
The Cowboys dropped 6-1 to the Division I ACU Wildcats in the morning at Streich Tennis Center before a team won 6-1 in a morning match at McMurry.
Hardin-Simmons later dropped just 4-3 to UT Permian Basin, going down to the final match of the day. UTPB is ranked nationally for Division II and regionally ranked No. 4.
Phoenix Davis and
Jameson Sorrell won 6-0 in doubles flight one,
Connor Hubbert and
Gavin Hail won 6-4 in flight two, and
Wyatt Terrell and
Devin Simmons won 6-2 in flight three for the point.
Davis went up 6-0, 6-3 in singles flight one, and
Luke Leavelle won 6-2, 6-1 in flight three.
Hubbert won a split 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 in flight four,
Josh Miller won 6-1, 6-4 in flight five, and
Leevi Knight won 6-0, 6-1 for the Cowboys in flight six singles.
The Cowboys went down to UTPB in the final match of the 4-3 loss. HSU was down 3-0 before
Gabriel Harris won 7-6(7-5), 6-4 at three singles.
Brandon Curiel won at flight four singles in a comeback 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to make it 3-2 UTPB.
Kayden Lengacher got the win at six singles 6-2, 6-2 to pull the Cowboys even.
Pedro Rozani went down at five singles 7-6(7-5), 5-7, 3-6 to close out the day for Hardin-Simmons against the Division II opponent.
HSU now has a record of 7-5 on the season and will start American Southwest Conference play with Mary Hardin-Baylor coming to Abilene, Texas on March 28 at the Streich Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
