FRANKSTON, Texas – Freshman Ariana Chavez placed third overall and the Hardin-Simmons women's golf team finished third as a team at the Pine Dunes Invitational on Tuesday at the Pine Dunes Golf Club in Frankston.
 
Chavez shot rounds of 79 and 78 for a 157 total. Fellow freshman Addison Payne shot 79-80 for a 159 total and also had a top 10 finish, tying for ninth. Shay West responded from an opening-round 86 with a 78 for a 164 total for a 15th-place finish. Aly Navarro shot a solid 85-84-169 to place 20^th. Allison McGinnis shot 80-94-174 and Julia Hughes shot 88-96-184.
 
East Texas Baptist shot a 322-315-637 to claim the team crown by four shots over LeTourneau and the Cowgirls were third at 323-320-643. Northwestern St. Paul and Schreiner tied for fourth at 656, Jacksonville College was seventh at 676 and Nebraska Wesleyan rounded out the field.
 
Paige Johnson of Northwestern St. Paul won the medalist race with a 76-77-153 by three strokes.
 
The Cowgirls will return to action April 13-14 at the West Region Invitational at White Bluff Golf Club in Whitney.
