FORT WORTH, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team dusted off with two wins at Arlington Baptist on Tuesday afternoon at Herman Clark Stadium.
The Cowgirls won 7-1 in game one and 19-0 in five innings in game two of the night. The team had 13 hits in the first seven innings and 18 hits in five innings to finish the day.
HSU scored first in game one in the first inning with an
Ella Salinas RBI-single to lead 1-0. Arlington Baptist tied the game at 1-1 before the Cowgirls scored three in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the seventh inning to win 7-1.
Salinas finished with three RBIs in the game, and
Bailey Miller drove in two runs.
Grace Thompson and
Madi Hubbard added RBIs in the win.
Thompson,
Emily Jacobs, Salinas, Miller, and
Ava Dennis all had two hits in the game against the Patriots. Jacobs and Miller hit a double each, while Hubbard and
Jazlynn Cantu hit a triple apiece for the Cowgirls.
Gabby Montanez pitched for 5.2 innings with four hits allowed and only one unearned run with three strikeouts in the win.
Makenna Holloway threw 1.1 innings to finish with two strikeouts for HSU.
The Cowgirls wrapped up quickly in game two with 19 runs in five innings to win.
Akaysia Grogan pitched for three innings in the win with two hits and two strikeouts in the combined shutout.
Bree Battenfelder had a hitless inning pitched and
Kimma Kincaid threw the final inning in the win.
Hardin-Simmons had seven extra-base hits out of 18 total hits, with five doubles and two triples in the larger field that measured out to 234 ft.
Honor Knott and
Kinzley Cantu each had three hits in the game, and
Addyson Kahklen led with four RBIs against ABU.
Hubbard, Kahklen, and
Alyssa Lusk each had multi-hit games as well. Salinas hit for three RBIs,
Corey Fortner, Lusk, and
Kinzley Cantu had two RBIs each, and
Hannah Aaron,
Libby Chapman, Miller, and
Aubrey Madrid all had one RBI in the win.
The Cowgirls improved to 8-3 with two wins at Arlington Baptist Tuesday. They will move their games up to Thursday, March 5 against Schreiner this week to avoid the weather. HSU will play in Kerrville, Texas at 4 and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
