ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy and Cowgirl outdoor track and field teams hosted the first meet of the spring on Thursday at the Hardin-Simmons Grape Street Complex.
Mahdi Paige led the Cowgirls in the 100m with a time of 13.16. Anouchka Cakpo ran a 100m time of 13.45 for the Cowgirls. Cakpo led the 200m for the women with a finish in 28.91.
Riley Birck led the Cowgirls with a 400m time of 1:06.
Faith Miller had a lap in 1:09 and
Alexis Heckathorn ran 1:11 for Hardin-Simmons in the 400m.
Ruthie Valdez pulled away to win the 800m race in 2:34 for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirl 4x100m team of
Haley Smith,
Emily Perkins, Cakpo, and Birck finished first in a time of 51.01.
Avalon Griggs cleared 4-11 ½ ft. in the high jump for the women. McKenna Fambro had a mark of 8-6 ¼ ft. over the pole vault for the Cowgirls.
Haley Smith took home the top mark in the long jump with a jump of 16-1 ft.
Annika Sowers jumped 15-11 ¾ ft. in the Cowgirl long jump.
Lenora Busby led the Cowgirls in the discus with a throw of 121-7 ft. Rachel Nordt threw 101 ft. and
Halle Bruntmyer had a discus of 84-1 ft. Busby also led the team in the hammer throw at 122-2 ft. and competed in the shot put throw for HSU.
Bruntmyer led the javelin throw with 85-11 ft. for the Cowgirls and Nordt had a javelin of 78-2 ft.
The Cowgirl outdoor track team will compete in Abilene at Abilene Christian for a meet on March 20-21.
