Box Score COPPELL, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team defeated a regionally and nationally ranked University of California, Santa Cruz, 5-2, on Friday, afternoon at Coppell High School.
The Cowboys claimed the doubles point with a win at No. 1 doubles as
Payne Smith and
Gabriel Harris earned a 6-4 victory.
Maddux Foster and
Kayden Lengacher pushed their No. 2 doubles match to a tiebreak, while
Brandon Curiel and
Pedro Rozani competed at No. 3 doubles.
Hardin-Simmons won four of six singles matches to secure the team victory.
Foster battled through three sets for a win at No. 2 singles, taking the match 3-6, 7-6, 7-5. Harris posted a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, while Curiel won in straight sets at No. 4 singles.
Lengacher added another straight-set win at No. 5 singles, and
Phoenix Davis completed the scoring with a No. 6 singles victory.
Smith competed at No. 1 singles for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys will be back in action tomorrow morning against East Texas Baptist from Coppell High School beginning at 10 a.m.
