HSU Cycling Places Third At Midwestern State

4/20/2026 3:33:00 PM

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons Cycling wrapped up the South Central Collegiate Cycling Conference regular road season this past weekend in Wichita Falls, where Midwestern State University hosted the traditional weekend format with an Individual Time Trial and Criterium race on Saturday, followed by a road race on Sunday. Competitors were not only racing for weekend podiums, but also for points toward the overall conference standings.

Freshman Daniel Orr and sophomore Aiden Seekins finished toward the top of their respective fields in the crit race, however each were hampered by tire issues in Sunday's road race. Orr still managed to gain enough points to finish third in the men's B division for the weekend. Sara Shannon won the women's A division crit in an exciting sprint finish, followed by second place in Sunday's road race. She wrapped up the weekend second overall and third in a closely matched conference series for the A women.

The consistent performance of all three HSU riders during the spring series resulted in a third-place finish in the SCCCC team standings, behind Midwestern State and Texas A&M respectively.

Coach Andress was proud of the effort of her team saying, "All three of these athletes improved over the course of the season, demonstrating growth in both the physical and tactical components of racing. We had a few instances of tough luck, with Aiden and Daniel having flats in the road race this weekend and Sara getting caught up in a crash earlier in the season resulting in a loss of conference points. All of that is part of racing though, and our entire team has a lot to be proud of. I also think it's pretty special that even though we are a small team and a young team, we earned enough points to finish in the top 3 for our entire conference. That speaks to the consistency and dedication of these athletes."

Freshman Sara Shannon punched a ticket to USAC's Collegiate Road Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin, on May 7-10. She will join the other A-category riders from all 11 conferences across United States to compete in a series of road events to officially wrap up the collegiate season.
