MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team shut out the No. 4 ranked ETBU Tigers 1-0 and dropped game two 11-3 for a split on Friday in American Southwest Conference play on the road.
Gabby Montanez pitched a complete game shutout in game one for the Cowgirls. She threw seven innings of six-hit softball and pitched around five walks with two strikeouts in the shutout win.
The Cowgirls scored the winning run after
Jazlynn Cantu doubled and
Kinzley Cantu drove in the RBI with a single in the sixth inning.
ETBU started fast in game two with five runs in two innings before the Cowgirls scored in the third inning.
Ella Salinas doubled for an RBI to make it 5-1 ETBU in the third inning. In the fifth inning,
Kinzley Cantu doubled for an RBI and Salinas had a single for another RBI. ETBU held out to win 11-3 in game two Friday.
Montanez started and had the loss in game two with four runs allowed.
Bree Battenfelder came in to throw for 5.2 innings for the Cowgirls with a strikeout.
Hardin-Simmons ended the series with a record of 20-10 and 6-6 in ASC play and will travel to Dallas Christian for two games on May 2 starting at 2 p.m. in Dallas.
