ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team will compete in the American Southwest Conference Championship this weekend at the White Bluff Golf Club in Lake Whitney.
The teams will play a 72-hole format with 18 holes each day, beginning on Friday (weather permitting). The format is play six and count four.
The Cowgirls will send three seniors, a junior and two freshmen. The Cowgirls are averaging a 323.3, which is the second-best in program history.
HSU's freshmen duo of
Addison Payne and
Ariana Chavez leads the way for the Cowgirls. Payne is averaging 80.1 per round this year and Chavez 81.1. Payne leads the Cowgirls with 32 birdies and Chavez has 30.
Senior
Allison McGinnis is third with 81.9 and
Shay West fourth at 82.3. Both have plenty of ASC Championship experience. McGinnis led the Cowgirls with a 14
th-place finish last year. West led the way two years ago with a fifth-place finish. West has averaged 78.5 over six ASC Championship rounds. McGinnis has averaged 80.4 over nine ASC Championship rounds.
Seniors
Aly Navarro and
Julia Hughes average 86.6 and 89.8. Navarro has played some of her best career golf in the ASC Championship. She has averaged 82.7 over six rounds. Hughes has averaged 88.0 over three career ASC Championship rounds.
