ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped its American Southwest Conference opener to East Texas Baptist, 12-0, in seven innings on Wednesday evening at Hunter Field.
The Cowboys managed just one hit on the night, a
Jacob Hollingsworth single to lead off the fourth inning.
ETBU scored a run on a passed ball in the first inning and the Tigers had seven hits and scored four runs in the third inning. Carson Livesay and Connor Massimini had back-to-back home runs to lead off the inning and Kahne Nolen added a two-run shot.
The Tigers scored a run the fourth, two in the fifth and four more in the sixth to put the run-rule in order.
Livesay and Joaquin Costa had three hits each for the Tigers.
Jack Kimsey (2-2) took the loss for the Cowboys allowing eight runs on 12 hits in four and two-third innings of work.
Bradley Fletcher and
Guy George worked out of the Cowboy bullpen.
Tyler Bogusz was dominant for the Tigers. He allowed just one hit over seven innings and struck out three in the complete-game win to move to 3-2 on the year.
The Cowboys are now 16-10 on the year and 0-1 in league play. ETBU improved to 19-10 overall and 1-0 in conference action. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday with first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
