DALLAS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team fell 4-2 in the 2026 American Southwest Conference championship tournament semifinal to the ETBU Tigers on Friday, playing at Southern Methodist University.
The Cowboys had a late change to the schedule to play the match at SMU after weather in Belton altered the ASC tournament location for Friday.
The Cowboy first flight doubles team of
Payne Smith and
Gabriel Harris was leading 5-2 before ETBU won at two and three doubles to take the point and leave the first flight match unfinished.
Hardin-Simmons quickly retook the lead with wins in single flights one and two.
Maddux Foster won two singles on a retirement from Snyman of ETBU, and
Payne Smith won 6-3, 6-2 against ETBU's ace Black to put HSU up 2-1.
ETBU won at three and five flight singles to go up 3-2 on Hardin-Simmons.
Brandon Curiel went to tiebreakers in the first set before dropping the point at four singles to ETBU's Van Zyl 7-6(7-4), 6-4.
The Cowboys ended the season with a record of 10-10 in another trip to the American Southwest Conference championship tournament in the semifinal round on Friday.
