SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy and Cowgirl outdoor track teams competed at the Trinity last chance meet Sunday with a record in the long jump from
Davare Payne.
Payne took first overall with on the final jump of the day with a 25-9 ft. long jump, pulling away from the competition and the Cowboy outdoor record books for a new program best. He beat the previous outdoor men's record of 24-8 ½ ft. set by Jacob Torrez in 2022, clearing it by more than a full foot. Payne is now the No. 2 long jump in NCAA Division III.
Lenora Busby threw the hammer 119-2 ft. to place fifth out of eight for the Cowgirls. She competed in the discus with a throw of 122-8 ft. for third place out of ten total women.
Dominic Garcia threw the shot put 41-5 ¼ ft. for the Cowboys to place fifth out of eight men in the event.
Jah'Shon Williams was third place for Hardin-Simmons in the 110m hurdles with 14.84 time among nine competitors.
Donovan Simmons and Derick Crump ran 10.78 in the 100m to place fifth and sixth overall out of 31 runners. Simmons had a 21.84 in the 200m for fifth out of 23 runners in the 200m.
Hardin-Simmons will await the NCAA qualifier list announcement for the NCAA Division III 2026 outdoor national championships in La Crosse, Wis. Beginning May 21.
