ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team went down in a game against the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs by a final score of 5-1 at the HSU Soccer Complex on Friday night.
The game was 1-1 at the half after HSU opened with a goal from
Gabriel Rodriguez in the 25
th minute with a
Jacob Boone assist and an answer from TLU's David Villareal in the 37
th minute cutting into the defense.
The Bulldogs went on to score four goals in the second half, including a hat trick by Luis Briseno, in the win.
TLU shot 21 times with nine shots on goal and HSU shot 15 times with eight shots on goal. Unfortunately, Bulldog keeper Ernesto Avila had seven saves, including a saved penalty kick, to keep the Cowboys to only one goal.
Joel McPherson started in goal for the Cowboys with three saves in the first half.
Joaquin Sanchez had 38 minutes in the second half with a save, and
Cayden Francis came in for the final seven minutes for HSU.
The Cowboys went to 1-4 on the season and will play at Trinity on Sunday at 1 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
