ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons opened American Southwest Conference play in dominant fashion Friday night, sweeping McMurry 25-10, 25-21, 25-12 at the Mabee Complex. The Cowgirls improved to 10-5 overall and 1-0 in ASC action with the straight-set victory over the War Hawks.
HSU controlled the match from the outset, hitting .330 as a team while limiting McMurry to a .017 attack percentage. The Cowgirls finished with 34 kills against just five errors and added 10 service aces and 19 total blocks in the conference-opening win.
Addy Delgado led the HSU attack with 10 kills and a .435 hitting percentage, while
Ellie Carter added seven kills on a .538 clip.
Jadyn Hernandez chipped in six kills and had five blocks.
Allison O'Shaughnessy directed the offense with 20 assists and 11 digs, while
Madeleine Hanson contributed four service aces and four assists off the bench.
Brylee Pursley paced the defense with a match-high 19 digs.
After cruising through the opening set, HSU was tested in the second as the teams battled through eight ties and six lead changes. The Cowgirls pulled away late to take a 2-0 match lead before closing out the sweep with a decisive third set.
McMurry was led by Layleah Williams-Gibson's eight kills, while Hanna Rubis added seven kills and nine digs. Grace Fortune recorded 22 assists and 10 digs for the War Hawks.
Hardin-Simmons continues ASC play on the road Thursday, traveling to Schreiner for a 4 p.m. match in Kerrville.
