ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team beat the McMurry War Hawks on Saturday 2-1 on the road to start American Southwest Conference play 1-0.
McMurry led off with a goal in the sixth minute, but the Cowgirls answered when
Jadyn Jones scored a goal to tie the game 1-1 in the 16
th minute.
The score held for the first half and nearly all of the second half before
Tatum Barnett gave the Cowgirls the win with just six minutes left in the match after a Jones assist. HSU won by a final score of 2-1.
Barnett scored her fourth goal of the season and Jones scored a goal in her second-straight game, adding the assist on the game-winner over McMurry.
The Cowgirls had ten shots with four shots on goal and McMurry had nine shots with six shots on goal in the match. HSU had the upper hand with nine corner kicks taken to seven allowed.

Rebecca Hall had five saves in full time in the start in goal with one allowed in the win.
The Cowgirls improved to 4-2-1 and 1-0 in the ASC on the year and will play against Schreiner at home on Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. at the HSU Soccer Complex.
