Why HSU ?

Academics
HSU is a place where student-athletes can combine their love of competitive cycling with a top-tier education. Students enjoy smaller class sizes in a wide variety of degree programs, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Tutoring and support services are readily available on campus.

Community
There is a family-atmosphere that exists across the beautiful HSU campus. Every student in the diverse population is valued and loved. Numerous opportunities exist for students to grow as men and women of faith, character, and leadership.

Financial Aid
HSU is a Nationally Ranked Institution for Affordability, 1 of 103 schools in the nation and 1 of 2 Texas private universities to earn this designation. 97% of students receive financial aid. Upon admission, every student receives an academic scholarship.

Competitive
Hardin-Simmons athletics has a long-standing tradition of excellence and a winning culture. HSU athletes are known for their tough, gritty, fighting attitudes. Those who come to compete in the cycling program can expect to train hard and compete hard.

Location.
Abilene has unlimited gravel and road routes, as well as mountain bike trails that are open year round.There is less traffic than the big cities, but all of the urban conveniences. Abilene’s central location in the state allows for easy traveling access in all directions.

Facilities
Hardin-Simmons is in the process of renovating space to create a cycling center. The area, used in recent years as a bowling alley, is conveniently located on the lower level of the Moody Student Center. Before heading upstairs to the recently upgraded cafeteria or bookstore, HSU cyclists will have their own space to meet, test, train, recover, store their gear, work on bikes, or hang out with teammates.

Support
Both the university and local community are committed to the growth of the HSU Cycling program. On any given day, you can find administrators and faculty out on the roads and trails. The local bike shop, Biketown, is a family-owned business that is partnered with the program. Abilene has a healthy cycling community that hosts weekly club rides. Cyclists at HSU have the opportunity to help grow the sport in the Big Country and beyond.
