ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team fell 15-4 to East Texas Baptist on Friday night at Hunter Field in the first game of an American Southwest Conference series.
Jase Jones gave ETBU the lead in the first inning with a sacrifice fly and Jeremy Colon tied it for the Cowboys in the first with an RBI single.
Jake Miller had the big blow for the Tigers in a four-run second inning, a three-run home run with two outs. HSU scored a pair of runs to cut the deficit to 5-3 after two innings.
The game stayed 5-3 until the fifth inning when Will Kelly had a two-run home run and Zachary McAdams an RBI single. Miller added a two-run home run to make it 10-3 in the seventh. Colon added an RBI double for HSU in the seventh inning and Charles Gordon hit a three-run home run for ETBU.
Blaine Parker held the Cowboys in check striking out 14 batters over seven innings. He allowed four runs on seven hits.
Hayden Clark started for the Cowboys and took the loss allowing eight runs on nine hits in four and two-third innings. Andrew Hernandez and Chase Buchanan worked out of the Cowboy bullpen.
Jeremy Colon had three of HSU's eight hits and Jamie Dominguez added two. Miller had three hits and drove in five for ETBU.
HSU is 4-8 on the year and 1-6 in ASC play. ETBU is now 10-5 on the year and 5-2 in league play.
The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
