Box Score 2 LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at LeTourneau on Friday, winning 3-1 in the first game and dropping the nightcap, 13-2.
Game 1
The Cowboys received a strong pitching effort from a trio of pitchers. John Clift went three and one-third innings and allowed just one run on four hits. Orel Rhodes went two and two-third innings of scoreless ball to earn the win and Grant Mitzelfelt worked a scoreless seventh for the save.
Garrett Frazier had an RBI single in the first inning and Jeremy Colon added a sacrifice fly to give the Cowboys a 2-0 lead. Kyle Maysonova had a bases loaded walk for LeTourneau in the fourth. The Cowboys picked up an insurance run in the fifth when a run scored on the back end of a double play.
Zach Hudson had two of the four HSU hits and Cody Stanley had two of the five LeTourneau hits.
Kolbey Sharpe took the loss to fall to 2-2 on the year. He allowed just one earned run and four hits on the day.
Game 2
LeTourneau scored six times in the first inning and two more in the second to jump to an 8-0 lead. Frazier had a pair of RBI doubles for the Cowboys in the sixth and seventh inning respectively.
Frazier and Colon had two hits each for HSU and Bryce Bruggemeyer had four hits for LeTourneau.
Jared Schurig improved to 2-2 with the win for LeTourneau. He allowed one run in six innings. Kolton Eberlan worked three innings to pick up the save.
Kadin Croak allowed five runs in the first to take the loss. Andrew Hernandez allowed five runs in five innings of work, Chase Buchannan worked one and two-third innings of scoreless relief. Lake Schara worked the final inning.
HSU is now 5-12 on the year and 2-9 in conference play. LeTourneau is 8-11 overall and 5-5 in ASC play. HSU will look for its first series win of the year on Saturday at noon.
