Box Score 2 ALPINE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped a pair of high-scoring affairs on Saturday at Kokernot Field in Alpine, falling 12-9 in the first game before losing 25-18 in the nightcap.
Once against the Lobos used early offense to take a lead with six runs in the first inning after HSU had scored a pair of runs. The Cowboys battled back as Jeremy Colon had a two-run home run in the third and Gabe Moore and Cody Harral had RBIs in the fourth inning to give HSU an 8-7 lead.
The Lobos scored five runs over the next two at-bats to take the lead back and take the win.
Zach Hudson, Colon, Frazier, Moore and Nate Blachowicz each had two hits for the Cowboys.
In the second game HSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Sul Ross State scored seven runs in the third inning and the game turned into a back and forth affair.
Weston Hickman hit a solo home run and Colin Ethridge had a grand slam as part of a six-run eighth inning that gave HSU an 18-16 lead. The Lobos came right back with a nine-run eighth to make it 25-18.
Hudson led the Cowboys with four hits and he scored five times and drove in a pair of runs. Frazier drove in four runs and had three hits,
HSU is now 7-16 on the year and 3-12 in conference play. Sul Ross State improved to 8-16 overall and 5-13 in ASC action. The Cowboys return to action on Tuesday at Southwestern for a doubleheader.
