Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team fell 12-6 to the Mary Hardin-Baylor Cru on Friday night in the first of three in the American Southwest Conference series.
The Cru started strong with four runs in the second inning. Jaime Dominguez got one back for the Cowboys after bouncing one through the right side to score Weston Hickman making it 4-1 UMHB after the third.
The Cru got the lead up to 8-1 before the Cowboys began to rally. Hickman led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a homer out of right field and Dominguez later tripled to score for the Cowboys.
Zach Hudson doubled home Dominguez, and Jeremy Colon singled home Hudson to make it 8-5. Colin Ethridge finished of the Cowboy scoring driving in Garret Frazier, cutting the lead to 8-6.
Mary Hardin-Baylor tacked on four insurance runs in the final inning to get the win 12-6 on Friday night.
Jed Zolman started the no decision for the Cru with three strikeouts. Zack Honey got the win with two strikeouts and Trevor Ripke finished with five Ks in the final two innings for the save. Kadin Croak had the loss for HSU.
Dominguez led the Cowboys with three hits and two RBIs including a double and a triple. For UMHB, Hunter Jones and Rhett Grosz each had four hits.
The Cowboys fall to 9-22 and 5-14 in the ASC while UMHB improves to 18-14 and 10-9 in the conference. The series continues tomorrow at 1 p.m., but make sure to get to the ballpark early for HSU's special Michael Simpson Day presentation starting at 12:30 p.m.
