BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball season fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor 6-5 on Friday night in the season and conference opener at Red Murff Field.

HSU opened the season with a bang as Garrett Frazier had a two-run home run and Jett Forrest followed with a solo shot in the top of the firth inning. Frazier added to the lead in the third with a solo home run.

UMHB chipped away with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4. The Cru went ahead 5-4 in the eighth inning on an Caimon Holiday RBI double.

HSU answered back with a run in the ninth to tie the game when Weston Hickman led off with a triple and scored on a Nick Ellington sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the ninth, UMHB loaded the bases with one out and Staton Dudley had a walk-off sacrifice fly.

Wyatt Tumlinson started for the Cowboys and he allowed three earned runs over four and one-third innings before giving way to Jaydon Stephens, who allowed two runs in three and two-third innings. Caidon Livingston came on in the ninth and took the loss allowing a run.

Trevor Ripke worked four innings of relief to earn the win for the Cru in relief of James McGlumphy.

Frazier had two hits and drove in three runs and Luke Kirkbride added a pair of hits in his Cowboy debut. Holiday had two hits for the Cru.

HSU is 0-1 and UMHB is 1-0. The teams will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
