ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped the first game of its three-game American Southwest Conference series with UT Dallas, 11-3, on Sunday afternoon at Hunter Field.
UTD scored five times in the second inning as the Cowboys had two errors in the inning. A.J. Liu had the big hit a two-run single. The Comets added three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to make it 10-0.
HSU's lone runs came in the sixth inning when Jett Forrest homered for the third time this season a two-run shot and Corey Ballew hit his first career home run.
Caidon Livingston took the loss for the Cowboys in his first career start. He allowed six earned runs over four and two-third innings. Hayden Clark, Jordan Ambriz, Alex Carte, and Brayton Wedeman all worked out of the bullpen. It was the HSU debuts for Ambriz, Carte and Wedeman. Ambriz and Carte each worked scoreless innings.
Carter Cochrane earned the win for UT Dallas, allowing three runs on five hits in six innings of work. Kenny Garza worked three scoreless innings for the save.
Five different Cowboys had one hit each. Brayshon Savage led the Comets with three of the 15 hits.
HSU is now 4-3 overall and in conference. UTD, the reigning league champions, has started the season 8-0 and are now 4-0 in ASC play.
The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Monday.
