CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at Ozarks on Friday, falling 7-6 and 19-2.
Game 1
The Cowboys took an early 2-0 lead. Jett Forrest had his eighth home run of the season in the second inning and added an RBI single in the third inning.
Ozarks scored five runs in the fourth inning on a three-run double by Kagen Kennedy and a two-run home run by Nicholas Bennett.
HSU came right back to take the lead with four runs in the fifth. Sam Buchkowski had a three-run double and Corey Ballew an RBI single. Ozarks received a two-run home run by Dru Didway in the sixth to take a 7-6 lead. HSU loaded the bases in the seventh but could not get the tying run home.
Ballew had three hits for the Cowboys. Didway had two of the eight Ozarks hits/
Jaydon Stephens took the loss in relief of Grant Mitzelfelt for the Cowboys. Blake Benson took the win.
Game 2
In the nightcap, the Cowboys succumb to a 12-run fifth inning by the Eagles.
Garrett Frazier had a sacrifice fly and Weston Hickman an RBI fielder's choice for the Cowboys. Alex Ray had four hits and drove in four runs and Sam Silvestri had a pair of three-run home runs for Ozarks.
HSU used five different pitchers in the game and Caidon Livingston took the loss. Rony Valdes earned the win and Zackary Brizendine worked the final three and one-third innings for the save.
HSU is now 11-11 overall and 8-9 in league play. Ozarks improved to 6-15 overall and 6-8 in league play. The teams will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
