Box Score 2 ARLINGTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team won two in a doubleheader travelling to play Arlington Baptist on Tuesday with scores of 9-4 and 13-4.
The Cowboys came out on all cylinders with five runs in the first inning of game one. Garret Frazier doubled home two and Gannon Azios singled in another. HSU reached on an error to get two more in the first, going up 5-0.
The Patriots chipped one back in the first, but the Cowboys added three in the sixth to pull away 8-1.
Craig Symmes hit a sac fly before doubles by Luke Kirkbride and Frazier in the sixth to plate three runs for the Cowboys.
Arlington Baptist got another in the sixth that was answered by another Symmes RBI double in the seventh. The Patriots comeback came to a close after two runs in the final inning, and the Cowboys took it 9-4.
Corey Ballew started for three innings in the midweek game with two strikeouts. Kolten Kitchens had the benefit of the win in two innings with one K and Alex Carte finished with two strikeouts on the mound for the Cowboys in two innings.
Frazier and Kirkbride each had two hits to lead the team, Frazier with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Cowboys.
Game two started of quiet with a Cowboy run in the second off an Azios single before a 9-run third inning for Hardin-Simmons.
Frazier doubled with the bases loaded to score three and Sam Buchkowski drove in another. Bryson Holt singled to score before Hickman doubled home two more. Kirkbride got two more RBIs with another double and the Cowboys added one on an error to make it 10-0 after four innings.
Arlington scored in the fifth, but the Cowboys had two more in the sixth from a Kirkbride single. Hardin-Simmons wrapped it up 13-4 to finish the day and the trip to Dallas.
Hayden Clark pitched a beauty with two hits in five innings and three strikeouts on one run in the win. Caleb Smith had an inning of work and Jaydon Stephens finished with two strikeouts in the final inning.
Kirkbride had three hits in game two with a double. Frazier hit two more doubles and Ballew, Azios, and Holt got two hits as well. Kirkbride, Frazier, and Hickman each had three RBIs in the game.
The Cowboys climb to 14-11 and take the weekend off before another Tuesday matchup with Howard Payne at John J. Hunter Field in Abilene for one non-conference game at 2 p.m.
