Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team fell 10-4 to Arlington Baptist in the final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday evening at Hunter Field.
Prior to the game, the Cowboys gave Arlington Baptist head coach Brad Bass his championship ring from the 1982 Trans America Athletic Conference title team he was an assistant coach for. That team is being presented rings on Saturday in a ceremony at Hunter Field, but Bass will be coaching Arlington Baptist. Bass has won more than 1,000 games as the head coach at Texas Wesleyan, Wayland Baptist and Arlington Baptist.
HSU scored a run in the first inning when Weston Hickman had a leadoff triple and scored on a Brayden Martin RBI single.
ABU scored two runs in the second inning and HSU tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth on a Carson Braun sacrifice fly. ABU then scored six straight runs to take an 8-2 lead.
Garrett Frazier cut the deficit to 8-4 in the seventh with a two-run home run. The Patriots added two more runs in the eighth.
Marcus Tidwell had four hits to pace the Patriots. Martin and Gannon Azios had two hits for the Cowboys.
Eddie Moreno the second of four pitchers for ABU earned the win. Alex Carte the fourth of seven HSU pitchers took the loss.
HSU is now 19-18 on the year and ABU improved to 21-17. The Cowboys must win one game this weekend against Sul Ross State to qualify for the ASC postseason for the first time since 2019. The series begins Friday at 7 p.m.
