ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team scored five goals in the shutout win against the Sul Ross State Lobos on Thursday night at the HSU Soccer Complex.
Julie Atlason got a ball in close from
Lexi Templin to open the game with a Cowgirl goal in the third minute, Atlason's third of the year.
Lauren Stengel took a free kick for the Cowgirls down low for her second goal of the season to make it 2-0 HSU in the 13
th minute.
Kirsten Bush scored for the Cowgirls in the 35
th to make it 3-0 with an assist from
Beasley Floyd. Bush fed a cross in to Templin for another Cowgirl goal just before half to make it 4-0, Templin's 11
th goal as a freshman.
Bush finished the scoring with her second goal of the game in the opening minute of the second half of a
Belle Floyd assist, making it six goals for Bush this season.
The Cowgirls didn't let off the gas with 34 shots and 19 shots on goal, but a great effort from the Lobo keeper De La Rosa with 14 saves kept it at a 5-0 win for the Cowgirls.
Haley Foley started in goal for the Cowgirls with a save in the first half and
Jenna Russell played keeper for HSU in the second half with two saves in the combined shutout of Sul Ross.
The Cowgirls improve to 10-0-2 on the season after the non-conference match with Sul Ross and will play again on Saturday night at 5 p.m. against Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference play.
