ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team had two goals from
Jakob Fiol in the 2-0 win over Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference play Saturday at the HSU Soccer Complex.
Fiol took a ball into the back line and double-deked out a trio of Yellow Jackets to tuck in the game-deciding goal in the 19
th minute for the Cowboys.
Fiol finished the Cowboy win with a header goal from a
Gage Riley corner in the 64
th minute, one of 13 Cowboy corner kicks in the match.
Fiol now has four goals on the season to tie
Maxwell Winneker for the team lead.
The Cowboys shot 24 times with ten finding the frame while Howard Payne was held to nine shots with a lone shot on goal.
The Cowboys are 5-4-4 and 3-0-1 in the ASC on the season, and more importantly 5-0-1 in the last six, outscoring opponents 14-1 in those games heading into a night for all the marbles in the ASC against UMHB on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the HSU Soccer Complex in Abilene.
