BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped an American Southwest Conference match to the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets inside the Brownwood Coliseum Monday evening.
The Cowgirls went down in four sets 25-17, 16-25, 25-21, and 28-26. HSU hit .190 with 53 kills to .197 and 49 kills for the Yellow Jackets.
Gabby Jones led the Cowgirls with 16 kills followed by
Jadyn Hernandez with 12 kills. Hernandez led HSU with five blocks with
Liz Underwood and
Sabrina Nelson each having three blocks.
Ali Meyer led HSU with 22 assists with
Keatyn Rodgers adding 20 assists.
Kat Martinez led Hardin-Simmons with 19 digs with
Rachel Nordt adding 14 digs as well.
Brylee Awbrey led Howard Payne with 16 kills. Rylee Spencer and Rylee McAlexander each had two blocks for the Yellow Jackets. Kassidy Johnson led HPU with 17 digs. Riley Brittain had 43 assists to lead the Yellow Jackets.
Hardin-Simmons moved to 9-11 on the year and 3-5 in conference play. Howard Payne improved to 10-8 on the year and 4-6 in league play.
The Cowgirls will return to action Friday night against Concordia inside the Mabee Complex beginning at 6 p.m.
