MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team won 2-1 at East Texas Baptist on the road Saturday in American Southwest Conference play with two goals from freshman
Thomas Saylae.
The Tigers got out the gate quick with a second minute goal to take an early 1-0 lead. The Cowboys would tie the game up on a goal from Saylae in the 22
nd thanks to an assist from
Micah Curry.
The game-winner came for the Cowboys after
Maxwell Winneker got the ball to Saylae for his second goal of the night in the 52
nd minute for a 2-1 lead HSU would hold for the win. Saylae is tied for the Cowboy lead with three goals this year.
HSU shot 26 times with 11 shots on goal to 14 shots with nine on frame for the Tigers. The Cowboys had ten corner kicks to three for the opponent.
Carson Null started in goal for Hardin-Simmons and had eight saves in the game.
The Cowboys improve to 3-4-4 and 2-0-1 in the ASC with ETBU dropping to 1-6-4 and 0-4 in conference. Hardin-Simmons soccer will return home to host Sul Ross State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
