HOUSTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team dropped the first game of the year to the St. Thomas Celts on Wednesday 73-71 on the road.
The Cowboys got out to a 43-36 lead at the half, but the Celts outscored HSU 37-28 in the second to take it to a 73-71 final for the first lost on the year for Hardin-Simmons.
Four Cowboys were in double figures, led by
Will Bartoszek with 17 points. He added seven rebounds and three assists in the game.
Jason Justice scored 15 and
Tyler Williams went for 10 in the game.
Austin Brewer had a double-double for the Cowboys, leading the team with 12 rebounds and scoring 14 points at St. Thomas.
The Cowboys shot 27-50 for 54% from the field and St. Thomas shot 29-69 for 42% in the game Wednesday.
Hardin-Simmons falls to 2-1 on the season and will have the weekend off. The next Cowboy basketball game will be after Thanksgiving, hosted at Trinity in San Antonio, playing against Colorado College Nov. 25
th at 1 p.m. before playing the Trinity Tigers on Sunday to follow at 3 p.m.
