SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team won 71-60 over the Claremont Mudd Scripps Athenas playing at Trinity on Saturday afternoon. HSU will stay in San Antonio to play Cal Lutheran on Sunday.
The Cowgirls were down 22-17 after the first quarter to the Athenas. Hardin-Simmons took back momentum in the second quarter and led going to halftime 38-33 over CMS.
The Cowgirls would go on to win 71-60, locking down on defense to hold the Athenas to just nine points scored in the fourth quarter. HSU also forced 22 turnovers from the CMS offense in the win.
Freshman
Madison Williams led the Cowgirls with 14 points, shooting 3-4 with a pair of threes and 6-7 from the free throw line. She also had five rebounds and led the Cowgirls with four steals on defense.
Kiki Gonzales scored 13 for HSU while
Samantha Tatum got 11 points and
Paris Kiser had 10 in the game against Claremont.
Parris Parmer led Hardin-Simmons with nine rebounds and added seven points.
The Cowgirls improve to 2-0 on the young season with another match in San Antonio against the Cal Lutheran Regals on Sunday at 2 p.m.
