LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team finished strong for a 78-70 win in the opening game of the American Southwest Conference season over the LeTourneau Yellowjackets on Thursday on the road.
 
Hardin-Simmons took a 43-33 lead at the half and finished off the Yellowjackets in the ASC opener with some good free throw shooting to win 78-70 in Longview. The Cowboys will head to ETBU Saturday.
 
The Cowboys shot 47% going 29-61 from the field and out-rebounded LeTourneau 43-28 in the win.
 
Three Cowboys were in double figures led by Will Bartoszek with 20 points. He also led the team with seven assists. Jalen McGee scored 19 in the win, going 8-14 with three made threes in the game.
 
Austin Brewer went for a doubles-double, leading the Cowboys with 14 rebounds and scoring 14 points against the Yellowjackets.
 
The Cowboys improve to 4-2 on the year and 1-0 in the ASC and will head to East Texas Baptist to take on the Tigers in ASC play in Saturday at 3 p.m. to finish the road trip.
