BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team swept the LeTourneau Yellowjackets in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament and will advance to play the semifinal against Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday.
The Cowgirls took the ASC Tournament match 3-0 in sets of 25-19, 25-23, 25-20 over LeTourneau. Hardin-Simmons hit .184 with 44 kills in the win.
HSU scored six straight in the opening set and never looked back, leading by nine at one point on the way to the first set win 25-19.
The Cowgirls got down in the second set 7-2 before a big run to tie the set at 7-7 before eventually winning 25-23. Hardin-Simmons finished off the sweep after another run of five straight to go up 15-8 in the third set they would win 25-20.
Liz Underwood led the Cowgirls with 15 kills in the ASC quarterfinal.
Ali Meyer set 23 assists to lead the team and
Keatyn Rodgers had 13 in the win.
Kat Martinez had 22 digs, while
Lydia Headley had 13 digs and Meyer added 11.
The Cowgirls improve to 13-14 and will advance in the ASC Championship Tournament to face the host seed Mary Hardin-Baylor in the semifinal match on Friday at 5 p.m. for a spot in the ASC Championship match Saturday.
