ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team defeated the Texas-Dallas Comets 63-61 on Monday afternoon at the Mabee Athletic Complex in American Southwest Conference play.
The Cowgirls were slow out of the starting line, shooting 25% in the first quarter, and UTD hit half their shots at 50%, leading the Cowgirls 19-14 after one.
Hardin-Simmons pulled back to make it a 30-29 game in favor of UTD at the half. The Comets got up to as many as five in the third quarter, 34-29, before the Cowgirls answered and led 44-40 at the end of three.
The Cowgirls pushed out to up by 11 points at 51-40 with six minutes left. UTD wouldn't go quietly and cut it to 59-56 with 13 seconds left.
Parris Parmer iced the game with four made free throws in the final seconds, and even with a half-court buzzer beater from Addy Self for the Comets, the Cowgirls took the game 63-61 for an ASC win.
Parmer led all scorers with 19 points and had three blocks for HSU.
Paris Kiser scored 18 in the Cowgirl win.
Savannah Bennett had eight rebounds to lead the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls move up to 9-1 and 4-1 in the ASC while UTD falls to 7-3 and 1-2 in conference play. The Cowgirls will play on Tuesday at 2 p.m. against George Fox at home in the Mabee Complex before a trip to Georgia on Dec. 29.
