MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team dropped the first game of the year on the road 66-65 to the East Texas Baptist Tigers in American Southwest Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
The Cowgirls led 24-13 after the first quarter but had a tough second quarter to trail 34-33 at the half. In a game with 12 ties and 14 lead changes, the Cowgirls were up one with a minute to go. ETBU would draw a foul with one second left in the game and sink two free throws to beat the Cowgirls 66-65.
Hardin-Simmons shot 23-57 for 40% from the field to 22-61 and 36% from the Tigers. The Tigers led with 48 rebounds to 25 for the Cowgirls.
HSU was led by
Paris Kiser on offense with 19 points.
Parris Parmer scored 12 with four made three pointers and
Madison Williams scored 14, shooting 5-8.
Anna Fanelli led with five assists and Kiser with six rebounds.
The Cowgirls fall to 5-1 and 1-1 in the ASC and will return to the Mabee Complex on Thursday to host Howard Payne at 5:30 p.m.
