ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team won 99-64 over the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets in American Southwest Conference play on Thursday night at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
The Cowgirls started fast out the gate with a 19-7 lead early ending the first quarter up 28-13 over Howard Payne. The lead only grew heading to half, with Hardin-Simmons up 32, 60-28 over the Yellow Jackets.
The Cowgirls got out to a 41 point lead a few times in the third and got a lot of experience for the whole team heading into the final minutes, ending with a 99-64 win over the ASC opponent.
Paris Kiser led the Cowgirls with 21 points, shooting 8-11. Kiser also led HSU in rebounding with eight.
Three more Cowgirls joined in double figures,
Samantha Tatum with 15 points,
Madison Williams with 12, and
Kylie Ellsworth scoring ten.
Anna Fanelli led Hardin-Simmons with six assists from the point.
Hardin-Simmons shot 37-67 for 55% in the game and led the rebounding edge 36-32 over Howard Payne and won the turnover battle with only 13 Cowgirl turnovers and forcing 26 from HPU.
The Cowgirls move to 6-1 on the year and 2-1 in ASC play and will host Sul Ross State on Saturday in a non-conference game.
