ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team improved to 7-1 on the year with an 81-61 win over Sul Ross State on Saturday at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowgirls jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the opening five minutes of the game and never trailed in the contest. They pushed the lead out to 25-4 and led 27-8 after the first quarter.
HSU led 47-27 at halftime as the Cowgirls shot 50 percent from the field. The two teams played an even second half in a total contrast of styles.
HSU's pressure led to 26 turnovers for the Lobos and the Cowgirls turned that into a 32-14 advantage in points off turnovers.
Kiser led the way with 26 points,
Samantha Tatum had 15 points and
Madison Williams and
Parris Parmer each scored 13 points.
Anna Fanelli had eight assists for the Cowgirls and Parmer had three blocks.
Morgan Peralez led three Lobos in double figures with 13 points. Marley Rokas and Victoria Aguayo scored 12 points.
The game does not count in the American Southwest Conference standings as Sul Ross State is reclassifying to Division II. The Lobos fell to 3-6 on the year.
The Cowgirls will return to the court on Saturday after final exams when it hosts the University of Ozarks in ASC action.
