Box Score IRVING, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team lost a non-conference game at the University of Dallas, 13-8, on Tuesday afternoon in Irving.
HSU fell behind 10-0 in the contest as the Crusaders scored two, three and five runs respectively in the first three innings.
The Cowboys jumped right back in the game with an eight-run top of the fifth inning to narrow the gap to 10-8. Cole Antonelli had a two-run single in the inning, Colby Seltzer had a two-run double, Karson Leatherwood had an RBI single, Sam Buchkowski had an RBI single and Brayden Martin added a two-run single.
UD added a single run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh. HSU had chances later in the game but left 10 runners on base in the last four innings.
Antonelli, Seltzer, Gannon Azios, Buchkowski and Martin all had two hits for HSU. Caleb Holman led UD with three hits including a home run and drove in five runs.
Brandon Girod made his first start of the year as he tries to work back into the mix after an injury. He took the loss allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning. Jaydon Stephens, Johnny Follett, Alex Carte, Keaton Hartman, Caleb Smith and Kolten Kitchens all worked out of the bullpen. It was the first career appearance for Hartman. Graene Williams the fourth of six UD pitchers earned the win.
HSU is now 7-10 on the year and UD improved to 9-7. The Cowboys will return to ASC play against Sul Ross State this weekend.
